Firewall protection
Without a firewall, your system is completely open to many types of threats whenever you connect to the Internet or to a network. By using Webroot’s firewall, you can block threats before they install onto your computer. Essentially, the firewall acts like a “bouncer” at your computer’s door, denying access to hackers or intruders who attempt to launch e-mail attacks or gain access to your personal information. The firewall also stops threats from leaving your computer, preventing them from spreading to other computers in your network.
The effectiveness of the firewall depends on the level of security you set for what traffic to allow or deny. The Webroot software uses your settings when it examines the Internet traffic that travels through your computer. If packets contain an IP address or use a protocol that is listed in an “untrusted” list, the Webroot software blocks it.
Firewall filters use a variety of screening methods to ensure that packets are coming from acceptable sources. With these filters in place, you can close any system vulnerabilities that hackers or other intruders may attempt to use for accessing your computer.
